Root : The root and stem barks used to treat stomach problems, diarrhoea, hernia, gonorrhoea, heart trouble, oedema, fever, asthma and rickets,wounds. A decoction of the boiled roots is used to treat oedema, diarrhoea, dysentery, dysmenorrhoea and hypertension, nervous disorders and stomach ache.

Stem bark:An astringent from the tree’s bark may be used for expectoration of blood from the respiratory tract . It can also reduce bleeding from wounds, treats period pain, and promotes menstrual flow.The powdered bark is used to treat pimples.

Seeds when fully roasted, are pulverized and used in some cultures as a coffee substitute and also to boost stamina, the tree seeds are considered anthelmintic, antispasmodic and anti-diabetic.

Leaves: Leaves and green fruit chewed to stimulate salivation to quench thirst, used for relieving stomach aches, diarrhoea, dysentery and nervous dissorders.The leaves treat arthritis. A decoction of the twigs is used in making a lotion for swelling and toothache. It can treat beriberi.
